Happy New Year!

. . . . .

As we say goodbye to 2010 and look ahead to the future, I thought it most appropriate to share with you what our good friend Dr. Jack Wheeler proposes for 2011 and the years to follow.

Happy New Year!

To The Point News – BARRY’S DREAM
Thursday, 30 December 2010

Ah… you may think this is about Barry Soetoro’s dream to ruin America.  Nope, this is about another Barry, who once upon a time was also a US Senator who ran for president.  His dream was to rescue America.

Americans were disastrously bamboozled into electing one Barry and just as disastrously not the other.

Fifty years ago, the other Barry wrote down his dream.  Just think of how much greater, how much safer, how much richer, and how much freer we would all be today if Americans had the brains and courage back then to put him in the White House instead of his precise opposite.  Here is Barry’s Dream:

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom.

My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution … or have failed their purpose … or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden.

I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is ‘needed’ before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible.

And if I should be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ ‘interests,’ I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty, and in that cause I am doing the very best I can.

This was the dream, the pledge to America, of Barry Goldwater (1909-1998).  You’ll find these words on page 15 of his book, written in 1960, The Conscience of a Conservative.

It’s useless to bemoan the horrifically disastrous election of Lyndon Johnson in 1964 instead of Barry Goldwater.  What’s happened happened, and we are where we are, not where we might have been.

For where we are right now, poised to enter 2011, is possessing the best chance to make Barry’s Dream come true than at any time in the ensuing half-century.  It may be our last chance, but perhaps for that very reason it is our best chance.

Not even Ronald Reagan had this chance – for instead, he had Tip O’Neil to stymie his every attempt.  Just as they had for the previous fifty years (since 1930), Democrats controlled the House.

*** We pause now for this important message from our ersatz president ***

Four days from now, this coming Monday, January 3, 2011, they will no longer.  It portends to be a change of real substance, not just form.  Cynics may deride the Boehner House’s first act to have the Constitution read in full on the House floor as theatrical.  But we are a symbolic species, and such founding rituals can have lasting significance.

Clearly more significant and substantive is Boehner’s directive that all proposed legislation submitted in the 112th must specify the specific enumerated power granted Congress by the Constitution that permits it.

This is the explicit, purposeful realization of this section of Barry’s Dream:

I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is ‘needed’ before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible.

Here it is:  the Memo sent to all Members of the 112th Congress and their staffers, dated December 17, 2010, from Boehner and the new House Majority Leadership, entitled New Constitutional Authority Requirement for Legislation.

Note the memo’s helpful references for Members to determine constitutional authority:  The Federalist Papers, the Heritage Foundation’s Guide to the Constitution, the Cato Institute, and the Federalist Society.

Note also that if a Member does not submit a Constitutional Authority Statement attached to his/her proposed bill, the Clerk will reject the bill and return it to the sponsor.

It should be fun to watch what happens when Dems cite the Preamble’s ” promote the General Welfare” clause and are told the Supreme Court ruled that the clause “has never been regarded as the source of any substantive power conferred on the Government of the United States or on any of its Departments” (Jacobson v. Massachusetts 1905).

*** And now, a word from our er… sponsor. ***

The real fireworks will erupt when Dems claim the Commerce Clause allows no limits on any legislation.  Such fireworks are just what is needed to expose Dems as anarchically anti-Constitutional.   For gone are the days when their leader, Pelosi Galore, could hubristically dismiss a reporter’s asking where in the Constitution was her legislation permitted by sneering, “Are you kidding me?  Are you kidding me?” [Actually, she said, “Are you serious? Are you SERIOUS?”]

Such is the Constitutional Gulf separating conservatives and liberals – the former want to follow and uphold it, the latter want to ignore and subvert it.  It is of extraordinary advantage to us, but it has never been used as Barry Goldwater dreamed it would be.

Now it may.  Florida Congressman Connie Mack (his real name is Cornelius Harvey McGillicuddy IV, but everyone calls him after his great-grandfather, baseball legend Connie Mack) and many of his colleagues are dubbing the 112th “The Repeal Congress” in recognition of Barry’s Dream.  Connie often carries an old paperback copy of Goldwater’s book, and will show the passage quoted above to anyone at any opportunity.

Connie will be the first to admit, though, that Rome wasn’t torn down in a day.  So it must be dismantled in stages.  While debate is continuing on what strategies and goals these stages should contain, here is a consensus starting to emerge from the incoming Conservative Republican Members of the 112th – no RINOs allowed.

*** We pause now to bring you this not-so-important message from Pelosi Galore ***

1st stage, the 112th, 2011-12.

Pass bills to repeal the most onerous and publicly-despised legislation of the 111th, ObamaCare in particular – with the full awareness that they will be vetoed and not overridden.  This puts the Dems on the defensive, the Pubs on the offensive, and forces the president to make unpopular vetoes.

Repeal legislation is thus all for political show and positioning.  Actual repeal will be done by defunding – very selective defunding wherever there is popular support for it, or to block implementation funding for recently-passed legislation to which the public has had no time to get addicted.

Focus particular energy on defunding edicts of the EPA and other examples of clear agency overreach.  Focus on defunding any and all efforts of federal agencies to hamper and restrict all forms of hydrocarbon energy production.

Focus on defunding corporate welfare, subsidies, and protection from marketplace competition.  Focus on defunding regulatory barriers to capital formation and the establishment/expansion of small business, as it is small business which creates the most jobs.

In sum:  the defunding mechanism is the most effective means to begin dismantling the Unconstitutional State; it is not subject to Senate approval nor a presidential veto.  If a simple majority of the House does not vote to fund a given federal activity, that activity is defunct, period.

Further, the 112th starts with a clean slate.  All government funding for any program ceases on March 4th (the expiry of the Continuing Resolution passed at the end of the 111th‘s Lame Schmuck Session).  After that date, neither the Senate, the President, nor any federal agency can spend money without it being first authorized by the House.

*** Breaking News from CNN ***

2nd stage: 113th, 2013-14.

The political success of the 1st stage will be gauged by getting government out of the way of job creation, economic expansion, and most hopefully holding off inflation.  This paves the way for the election of a “Goldwater Conservative” president at the end of 2012 – plus an increase in the Pub House Majority and gaining the majority in the Senate.

With such a president and senate, the 113th can be a genuine Repeal Congress, with outright repeal of ObamaCare, and major regulatory barriers to business expansion such as Sarbox and the entire depreciation schedule.

Should the likelihood of hyper-inflation occur due to the massive debt burden acquired during the Obama Administration, this government can take the only rational path of escape, which is default – outright default on US Treasuries owned by non-US citizens and governments.

State governments facing bankruptcy will now be allowed by Congress to do so (if not already by the 112th).  The authority of public employee unions to collectively bargain will be withdrawn.  Paul Ryan’s Road Map to privatizing Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid can begin to be implemented. (Ryan, R-WI, is the brilliant incoming Chairman of the House Budget Committee.  A condition of working for him is that you have read and understood Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged.)

With all this underway, 2013 would be an auspicious time to launch the Repeal 1913 Movement – the effort to repeal the three great evils passed 100 years before:  The 16th Amendment creating IRS and the income tax, the 17th Amendment creating the states as administrative districts of Washington (via direct election of senators rather than by state legislatures), and the Federal Reserve.

Regarding the Fed, guess who said this:

Most Americans have no real understanding of the operation of the international money lenders. The accounts of the Federal Reserve System have never been audited. It operates outside of the control of Congress and manipulates the credit of the United States.

Ron Paul?  No, although the incoming Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and author of End The Fed would certainly agree. It was Barry Goldwater.

*** We will resume regular programming in just a moment. But first, this… ***

3rd stage: 114th, 2015-2016.

By now, Barry Soetoro’s dream has been tossed into the dustbin of history, as the strategy of getting the government out of the way has clearly been successful in creating widespread prosperity.

Now, then, is the time to effect the Repeal of 1913, eliminate entire federal agencies such as Education, Energy, and the EPA, eliminate the corporate income tax entirely and reduce all forms of taxation and government interference into our lives drastically.

This is the game plan to rescue America from Liberal Fascism and the Unconstitutional State.  To what extent will Barry Goldwater’s dream be realized?  The answer is:  it’s up to us – you, me, and millions of other tea-partying American patriots who are responsible for the opportunity of Barry’s Dream becoming at least possible via the Nov 2nd elections.

Will RINOs get in the way?  Of course.  Will the Enemedia and the Dems use every dirty and dishonest trick to prevent it?  Of course.  Will it fail to achieve all its goals?  Most likely.  But the dream itself is real, and that is critically important.

That is, it is a real dream, the real intention and goal of large numbers of very smart and very committed folks in Congress with control of levers of real government power.  Power at the controlling leverage point of spending.

At last, at last, after all these years, we have the actual opportunity and capacity to turn Barry Goldwater’s great dream of freedom into reality.  2011 really is going to be a Happy New Year.

  1. Great column!

Let’s see if EITHER of the Big Two parties will actually follow the Constitution.

Among the gems in this column:

    1. Those VIDEOS. Wow! They present concepts that even a union Democrat could understand.

    2. “… their leader, Pelosi Galore” — cryptic reference to a peculiar character in a James Bond movie. (named Pussy Galore)

    3. The defunding option: brilliant, absolutely BRILLIANT.
