Ok, before I lay this in, I think Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is Presidential timber. This won’t come as news to some of you who follow my posts on FB (I’ll be back there in four more days, but not to worry — I’ll still be posting here too!). I think highly of “Kansas” and hope Trump and “we the people” hand him the reins in 2024. But even if that doesn’t happen, we are fortunate to have him partnering alongside President Trump, handling our foreign affairs. That said, here we go…
Pompeo’s Rare Lightning Trip to Israel: Why Now?
One Day before Netanyahu/Gantz “Unity” Government Begins
Intro: In the midst of the coronavirus crisis and with virtually no foreign travel on his agenda, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Wednesday for meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz. The meetings are scheduled just one day before their “unity government” is set to be sworn into office.
Given the urgency of the current Covid-19 crisis and the health complications of foreign travel, is such a trip really necessary at this time?

- Why is Secretary Pompeo choosing to have this lightning trip to Israel at this time? Israel and the United States are close allies and the cooperation between our two countries has increased exponentially during the Trump administration. The problem is two-fold: Firstly, that Israel hasn’t had a stable government for about a year and secondly the Covid-19 crisis has become an international obsession, and understandably so, but there are other events happening, especially in the Middle East, that threaten American interests and those of the free world.
- Like what for instance? Like Iran. Despite the fact that the radical Islamic regime has been hit hard by the coronavirus, they have not slowed down the pace of their race for the nuclear bomb and weapons programs nor their support for international terrorism. These are serious threats to Israel and to American interests, and these threats have not been erased by the coronavirus.
- Israel’s new government is being officially sworn in on Thursday. Does that factor into this, as well? Absolutely, the timing is not an accident. Israel has been bouncing from election to election and now there will be a consensus government in Israel that Trump and his top advisers can work with.
- So aside from the threats from Iran, what other burning issues will be discussed during Pompeo’s trip?Clearly the impending issue of Israel’s promised declaration of sovereignty over parts of Judea and Samaria, (the so-called West Bank), with President Trump’s approval. The target month of July is rapidly approaching and its smooth implementation without a sharp jump in Palestinian terrorism is both an Israeli interest and an American interest. I am also sure that Pompeo and Netanyahu will be discussing the latest intelligence about the Chinese Communist Party and its reckless goal of achieving economic domination.
