I was at Gitmo three times during my tour in the Marines.. It was not nearly as built up but still a good place to get off the Navy ships. On my second stop there we couldn’t go ashore because Castro threatened to raid Gitmo “if one more Marine lands”. We spent three days circling off the coast. It was a good place to get off the Navy WWII ship (condemned by the Navy but brought back to transport Marines) and have a beer.
