As a 6th generation Floridian I totally agree but they won’t! I read an article (local) & belong to a genealogical group (who were present) about the taking down of statues. Around the Lakeland or the small towns surrounding. A newly retired man walking through a park spotted one & because of his rant, & his new found boredom they did remove it! It had remained in peace since the late 1800’s. As well as a “woke” lynchmob” declaring they were going to burn the Southern Cross flag upon the steps of the courthouse & burn down a beautiful Grand Oak claiming it was a hanging tree?! I can tell you this the only thing they burned was rubber getting the heck out of town. Who were they running from, not a bunch of racists, but a bunch of mostly elderly woman whose ancestors like mine had been here since early 1800’s. They weren’t going to be pushed around or have such vandalism in the community! Now with this new teaching curriculum such as the 1619 project who’s own author said it was not a historical acct. but a teaching of “Memory” of the past & account of the future. Fictional! I am glad DeSantis is fighting to keep this & sex out of schools! I hope kids can be just kids in FL like I enjoyed & not be drug through the crap that have been succesfully taught all around the country. My cousin’s child *my Goddaughter) has a beautiful mixed race family, I am so glad the youngest in graduating this year w/ full scholarship, 2 already graduated college and weren’t brought up in that kind of atmophere, the current atmosphere of white=bad, black=oppressed. That is the saddest part of younger families like mine, are they supposed to not love their white mommy & feel like they cannot go to college or have friends that are white, personally I consider this child abuse, everyone is different in their own way & that doesn’t solely include the color of their skin but that is exactly what those in power & influence want to see.
