The reason.

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve driven through several neighborhoods here in Central Maine to view the Christmas lights and decorations.

We’ve spent several evenings enjoying brightly colored lights that outline rooflines and drape shrubs, wind around porch rails and columns, and observed “reindeer” sparkling like diamonds on front lawns. Candles in windows, twinkling wreaths adorning front doors. Even those ridiculous blow-up characters (Santa, the Grinch, cartoon characters, etc) that delight the kids.

But…

We have not seen one crêche, not one lowly hay-filled manger scene recreating the animal stall where Mary and Joseph tended to the Christ babe.

We’ve not seen a Cross, a star of Bethlehem, the Magi, shepherds, or any iconic figure that would tell the story about the reason we celebrate Christmas – the birth of the child Jesus, saviour of mankind.

Christ…mas. The very word that denotes its meaning. Forgotten, overlooked, ignored in the frenzy of everything else.

Don’t you find it sad? Don’t you find it indicative of what ails us as a nation? We’ve lost our way.

It’s all about Santa, gift wrap, and forking out credit cards to pay for gifts – things – we can’t afford.

Churches are dark. Where are the believers?

Is it any wonder our country is in a world of hurt?

Santa has replaced Jesus, just as bunny rabbits and colored eggs have replaced the miracle of His resurrection.

With few exceptions, we the people have lost our way, hypnotized by the crass commercialism of capitalist greed and propaganda. We’ve abandoned and forgotten the entire purpose of celebrating December 25th.

Until and unless our nation returns to God, with faith in the Almighty, adhering to the scriptural precepts in humankind’s owner’s manual – and the lessons of life it tells us, how can we ever hope to save ourselves now and in the hereafter?

When we can’t even remember Jesus, the everlasting reason for this season…

The photos above are our home in Maine, decorated to honor the birth of the Christ Child Jesus.

Pray for the children. They are the future.

Teach them what Christmas means. The REAL meaning.

    1. God Bless You and your family! What a beautiful sentiment in this post, as in your beautiful Christmas display. A gentle reminder of the true spirit of Christmas, the birth of our Savior, the Christ child, Jesus!

    2. I love getting to know you Radio Patriot. Your home is beautiful. During these past few years, I am most aware that Christ is being seen in us & through our actions. We are His temples not made with hands. Steeples, buildings, have been empty – when our hearts are full of Jesus it is a “Win – Win.” Blessings & Merry Christmas.

  1. Thank you for this post! What beautiful children singing all the words of those songs. There are no signs of Christ’s birth, or even reindeer in my neighborhood, there is one Christmas tree lit up with gold lights in a window, night and day, but not another sign of anything about the meaning of the most important Event in all of our lives.
Love your Maine Home Christmas display of lights and the full desert scene of the little barn, animals, wise men, and the very bright Light in the sky.
Wishing all of you a Joyful and Blessed Christmas Season!

  2. As much as I am a junkie for the news and observations that you bring to us in volume, I also enjoy your personal thoughts on our current social situation as in the above observation. I believe that commercialization of our sacred holy days and what was political correctness of the 90’s that became the Woke indoctrination of this generation, has every year visibly eroded away at those very special days in the faith of many of us. We have watched it happen and we have picked nonsense battles against it, as we did in Rhode Island a few years back when the governor st up a “Holiday Tree” to receive backlash from a small group demanding it be rightfully called a “Christmas Tree.” Or when we respond “Merry Christmas” to a greeting of “Happy Holiday’s.”
We need to do more… we as individuals, families and even communities need to wear our faith openly and worry less about offending others with our beliefs and realize that a functional society requires us to keep our beliefs and learn and respect those of others through honest and non-combative conversation. Sadly however, our country has become so fractured and divided that a simple display of faith in business or public forum has become taboo because so many bought into political correctness that was the camel’s nose in the tent to the collective mental disease of “Woke”ism.

  3. Hi there, I sent you a Christmas song I wrote that I got a bunch of kids to sing. Hope you enjoy, Mari

  4. I had a neighbor, an elderly lady, make it a point to call me and thank me for my nativity display. We all have to contribute to the reason for the season.
