The new 2026 coins from the US Mint commemorate America’s 250th anniversary with special designs and markings that celebrate milestones related to the nation’s founding, much like the bicentennial coins issued in 1976.
While the 1976 coins featured special reverse designs for the quarter, half dollar, and dollar coins, the 2026 coins will include quarters, dimes, and nickels with unique imagery, dual dates (“1776 ∽ 2026”), and depictions of founding fathers such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and James Madison.
This wave of semiquincentennial coinage builds upon the excitement generated by the 1976 bicentennial coins but introduces more varied designs and collectible options, such as the Enduring Liberty Half Dollar and 1776 ~ 2026 Penny.
