When Obama’s a lame duck, look out!

.

Phil Kerpen was on Glenn Beck’s program this morning.  Kerpen’ll be with us on Thursday night to talk about his book “Democracy Denied.” (More on that in a future post.)

My quick notes on the interview (not verbatim — Kerpen talks quickly):

“The president is now — one year away from the election that we thought was going to change everything — more and more power has been transferred to the regulators. He has spent the last two weeks telling us he doesn’t need Congress, genuinely believes the Constitution is irrelevant.”

How to stop Obama?

“We’ve got to demand that Congress stand up for itself, and do what its job is supposed to be.”

But who are they in Congress with a spine?

“There’s a bill called the Rains (?) Act… that would force Congress to be in the decision loop on all regulations. It will pass in the House and we’re going to push really hard for it in the Senate. Ultimately it comes down to us.  Politicians are followers, not leaders.”

What does Phil Kerpen see on the horizon?

“Obama himself on the campaign trail claimed to be against abuses of executive powers, then he gets in and says he won’t enforce certain laws, pretends congress passed certain others…

“… even if we get a strong solid conservative president there’s going to be a strong pressure on him not to do that (repeal Obama’s executive orders), and we have to counter that pressure… if you want to demand that Congress do things the right way and stand up to the administration, it has to come from us.

“The next year’s gonna be very tough and the few months after the election when Obama is lame duck, will be very dangerous. They’ll push forward on everything they’ve stalled because what we’re seeing right now is an administration looking tempered because he’s campaigning.  But after the election push through so many things it will make your head snap. The obliteration of property rights is the objective of this administration.”

Is there any hope?

“We’ve got the people on our side. There are more conservatives in America than them…”

Join us Thursday night when Phil Kerpen explains the problem, and the solution.
