JACKSON, MI — Three Republicans who are seeking federal and state offices will be speaking at a Jackson rally in opposition to President Barack Obama, organizers announced.

Speaking will be U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra of Holland, U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg of Tipton and state Rep. Mike Shirkey of Clark Lake.

They are attending a Rebuild America Defeat Obama rally 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Cascades Falls band shell, 1401 S. Brown St.

The rally is being held by The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama, a group of conservative activists, many of whom have been involved in the Tea Party movement. The group has its own Political Action Committee that campaigns against Obama and for Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

The Jackson rally is the first of 17 in Michigan from Tuesday through Oct. 22 and from Oct. 28-31, the Campaign to Defeat Obama said in announcing the Jackson stop.

Hoekstra, a former U.S. congressman, is challenging Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow in the Nov. 6 election. Walberg is facing Monroe County attorney Kurt Haskell and Shirkey is being challenged by retired Michigan Department of Corrections employee Bonnie Johnson.
