Looking back at the beginning of blogging

As 17 or more years have passed since I made my “debut” onto social media, many sites I regularly visited then have come and gone. Not for any particular reason other than events and interests have evolved as have the platforms (Telegram, for example) where information is spit out on an “as it’s happening” basis.

But today, someone linked to a post I published, giving it a “ping back” (another term long since used) to a website I used to visit (thank you Francis Porretto at LibertysTorch.info ). Heading over to see why/how Liberty’s Torch used my post (Zerohedge), while there I saw a list of blogs that were “favorites”, mine included. (Again, thank you Francis Porretto!)

The list brought me back to early days of blogging beginning circa 2006, and reminded me of the brilliant and amazing pioneers who wrote amazing blogs that shared news and opinions about the post 9-11 birth and growth of the tea party movement, the deep-seated disgust with Congress and the Iraq war, and in short, the headlines of the times.

I thought you might find it interesting to see who we were back then and who continues to communicate thought pieces, analyses and news through their keyboards, putting out excellent content, educating and informing readers. Also those whose blogs ended when sadly, we lost their authors (and the treasures they brought forth) to the passage of time, including my very favorites, Mike “Dutchman6” Vanderbeogh and the Three Percenters at Sipsey Street Irregulars, and Dave Logan at ThirdWaveDave.

Memories… so many.

There were those I invited to join me on my radio shows to discuss their views and how they became – through their blogs – the “new media” and where they saw liberty headed. Meeting them and knowing them was and remains a highlight of my radio hosting career.

We were nascent “the new media” then, we just didn’t know it.

We do now, and we are even more powerful, eclipsing legacy media which brought us decades of propaganda that these early bloggers saw through.
