Some of us might see this in our lifetime

We might even dispense with our personal cars and ride instead in these. After all, wasn’t the horse and buggy the common conveyance at one time?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the automaker is planning to unveil its new ‘robotaxi’, a next-generation self-driving vehicle, on August 8th.

After the Cybertruck, Tesla has been expected to release two highly anticipated new electric vehicles: a smaller and cheaper electric car, commonly referred to as the “$25,000 Tesla Model 2”; and a new “dedicated robotaxi,” a vehicle designed from the ground up for autonomous driving without any pedals or steering wheel.

When it comes to the robotaxi, Tesla has been talking about making all its consumer vehicles built since 2016 being capable of becoming robotaxis through a software update, but at Tesla’s Cyber Rodeo event in April 2022, Musk announced that Tesla would also build a new vehicle specifically to be a “robotaxi.”

…CEO Elon Musk announced that Tesla would unveil the Robotaxi on August 8th:

Interestingly, the announcement comes after a report that Tesla had scrapped its “Model 2” in favor of the Robotaxi.

Musk denied the report, but this announcement seems to be an acceleration of the robotaxi program as Tesla previously talked about an unveiling of the next-gen vehicles at the end of 2024.

Through Walter Issacson’s approved biography of Musk, we learned that Tesla Robotaxi will be “Cybertruck-like”.

Comment:

Elon Musk believes that the development and deployment of Robotaxi services is inevitable, although he acknowledges that he can be overly optimistic at times. He recognizes the importance of optimism in driving progress and innovation, and he believes that without his optimism, projects like Tesla’s Gigafactory, which plays a crucial role in the production of electric vehicles, would not have come to fruition.

  1. I love Elon’s ambition. Hower, I will take the horse. I can scratch it’s head, comb it’s mane, feed it oats and carrots, kiss uts velvety nose and then try and mount it while it pins back it’s ears and bits me in the butt. Such an animal relationship.

  2. Not for me! I don’t need some third party knowing where I go and who with. Turn phone off when I drive and put in shield. Thinking about “going Amish”. It may be my own “15 minute city” but I can travel at will, with a living partner and enjoy nature, taking the roads I want at a speed I select.

    1. I couldn’t have said it any better! I like the way you think. We have gone way, way down a road of increasingly complex and largely unnecessary technology only to find ourselves without the skills needed to live the way God intended…. Free! Just a couple of weeks ago our local hardware store was implementing a new computer software program with much difficulty. This went on for days. Each time I went in I watched them struggle. Finally the thought hit me that if they would only put in half as much effort into learning how to manually keep records, the computer wouldn’t even be needed to begin with. The yearning for a simple life is still within us all, however, even though it is largely supressed. If you doubt this, start a campfire. Even if it’s 90 degrees outside, if any other people are around, before long someone will come and stand by that fire with you.
