As long as Real ID is operated by each state’s criteria, it really doesn’t mean as much as many think it does: Many think the Star* on the upper right hand corner signifies vetted Citizenship. It does not. For some states it’s a verification of address – that the person/driver checks out as having residence at the address provided. While other states require proof of citizenship such as passport or birth cert – when issuing a license and won’t issue if citizenship isn’t verified. Real ID ‘sounds’ real serious, but as long as it’s issuing criteria can be different from state to state, it’s kind of misleading.
