‘Tis the Season

We’re all busier than usual this time of year, and things at the Radiopatriot are no exception.

I’ve been adding shifts to my workload at the cruise line, as we now have added two more ships to our winter schedule here at Port Canaveral, and things are pretty hectic. Today we boarded more than 5500 passengers on their way to a seven-day pre-Christmas expedition to the islands.

I’m also taking on additional responsibilities with my community, and will soon be sworn in as a member of our city council to fill a recent vacancy. So things are going to be even more demanding of my time.

Posting will be lighter, and I’m hoping our dear friend Robert Wallace, aka An Old Piece of Leather, will continue to fill in with his pithy and thoughtful commentaries.

I’ll still be here, up at dawn checking the news and posting pieces I think you’ll find as interesting, thoughtful, amusing, and important as I do.

Tonight I’m taking this opportunity to publicly congratulate my grandson Nathaniel upon his graduation from Officer Training School in Montgomery, AL. He is now a 2nd Lt. in the US Air Force Reserves. Already a skilled ER RN, Nathaniel will work toward becoming a surgical flight nurse with Special Forces.

From the time he was a little boy, he dreamed of wearing the uniform. His bedroom was done in camouflage bedding, military pennants and posters, GI Joe and little toy soldiers. For his 6th birthday, we went to a local Army/Navy surplus store where he picked out an ammo box, a couple of MREs, and assorted military trinkets and paraphernalia. Upon returning home to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, he donned his full battle gear (camo jersey, pants, and a bucket hat). Brandishing a gift wrap cardboard tube, he pretended it was his rifle and entered a world of imagination on the front lines.

Years later, he joined the Boy Scouts where he earned every badge.

The Lord had big plans for that little boy from the beginning, it seems.

Nathaniel, may our Heavenly Father continue to bless you and keep you safe in His palm as you live your dream and help others as a surgical flight nurse in the days and years ahead. We love you, pray for you, and hold you in our hearts. Well done, grandson. You’re on your way.

  1. What a beautiful tribute to your grandson. You must be so proud!! So happy that he is reaching his goal. What a wonderful young man he must be.
And I am sure that I speak for many of your devoted fans, hopefully we all will be here when you get back to us full time. You are wonderful and knowledgeable. I really appreciate You!!!!

  2. God bless him ….. and all our men and women in uniform. May he serve honorably and I pray NONE of them see another foreign war.

  3. I appreciate your work! I noticed a while back i was no longer getting your post. I have tried every way to find out if I blocked your website or email subscription on accident. I can get it if I use a different email address, but not my main personal one.

  4. Congratulations Andrea. May our Lord, the Creator of everything, the King of the Universe, watch over Nathaniel as he embarks on this new adventure. May the angels be his right rear guard. May his mind be sharp, his wisdom deep and his hands strong and healing.

  5. May our country be worthy of this young man’s love and call to duty. Our country has nothing to fear when God blesses us with a military composed of such honorable men.
