This video was taken by a neighbor yesterday evening of the ARTEMIS II soaring to the moon from Kennedy Space Center. I walked to the beach to watch with thousands of others, yet if I stood at my front door, this is the view I have. That’s how close we are to the launch pads.
And why we are uneasy about — and not looking forward to — the launches of the beasts (Elon’s Starship, Blue Origin’s New Glenn, and other behemoths) which can cause costly damage to our community’s homes and infrastructure with their tremendous percussive vibrations, sonic booms, and the possibility of an explosion (see Challenger Space Shuttle). Though we’re reassured by rocker makers that all will be OK, those of us who have studied the situation know that’s a promise they can’t keep.
But… national security!!!
FLORIDA TREND magazine recently wrote a cover story about us, titled “SHAKE RATTLE AND ROLL,” including the concerns we have on this spit of land (not to mention nearby Titusville, Merritt Island and towns to our south (Satellite Beach, Indian Harbour Beach, Indialantic) that share our barrier island. There is legit cause for concern.
I repeat: But…national security!
So, for all the whooping and hollering and “Go baby GO!” from folks who are ecstatic about watching these rocket launches and feeling the rumble, I’m concerned about Elon, whose recent tweet assured the world that within the next 4 or 5 years, he’ll be sending up rockets every hour. And that’s just SPACE X’s operations…
Do a “Starship” word search here on Radio Patriot and you’ll find 38 posts I’ve written about what SpaceX/ Starship has done to the Texas barrier island of BocaChica/Brownsville, officially renamed SpaceX City, and what we anticipate here in Cape Canaveral.
Now… Imagine the potential impact to our underground water, cable, and electrical systems, concrete block homes and windows, air pollution, and wildlife that live on this fragile barrier island?
Here are just a few of the pieces I’ve posted:

We saw basically the same view from the top of our golf course restaurant terrace with all the roar of the rocket included…..so at 70 mi away we are close enough……National Security, but at what cost??? There were a couple of hundred of us watching…..
