The simple question was, “Do you fully support the Obama agenda?” The reaction of Congressman Etheridge, as seen on video via television and the internet over the past week, was to lose control.
Why would that question elicit such a response? The results of a Civitas poll this week might provide an explanation, because as troubling as the behavior displayed by Congressman Etheridge on that video was, his voting record is equally so.
The Civitas poll conducted by Survey USA questioned 400 registered voters in the second district, asking questions about their opinions on several issues that are part of the Obama-Pelosi agenda.
When asked if they approve or disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing as President, 38% approved, 55% disapprove.
When asked if they would be more likely to vote for a candidate that supported the health care bill recently signed into law or less likely, 34% said more likely, while 53% said less likely.
When asked if they would be more likely to vote for a candidate that voted to approve the bailout for Wall Street or less likely, 16% said more likely, while 61% said less likely.
By voting for the Obama-Pelosi agenda 97 percent of the time, Bob Etheridge has been out of step with the majority of his constituents. The poll results don’t explain Congressman Etheridge’s behavior, but they do provide some insight into why he was so determined not to answer that simple question. But the truth is, his voting record had already answered it for him.
