This topic has been front and center for me lately. I am facing a major surgery with a highly complex case. Every time I am asked for consent, my daughter presses me on it. You know how forceful adult children can be about their parents’ health decisions—and really, all of their choices. I had a surgery years ago where I lost half my blood volume. It required half of my blood, transfusion back in the 1980s, before blood was safely tested for all pathogens, so we are both incredibly nervous. At first look at your form I thought it was the answer to one of my dilemmas with this surgery. I must admit I am furious with all the crimes upon humanity, which has certainly caused issues with myself, my family and everyone I know, and those I don’t.
