We’re talking with Gold Star Mom Debbie Lee who has just returned from her second trip to Iraq. Debbie, mother of US Navy SEAL Marc Alan Lee, the first SEAL to give his life in the Iraq war, is the founder of America’s Mighty Warriors, and a team member on the national Tea Party Express Tour, wrote:
It was an amazing trip! I was embedded with the 321st Air Expeditionary Wing based at Victory Base Complex. They are advising the Iraqi Air Force and are rebuilding the Iraqi Air Force. I went to the headquarters for the Iraqi Air Force and was able to interview Officers and Enlisted along with their counterparts from our Air Force. I was able to obtain an exclusive interview with General Anwar who is in charge of the Iraqi Air Force. I was told that CNN and other media have tried to obtain an interview and were not granted the opportunity.
I also met and interviewed many of our troops and was able to hear first hand how the draw down is going. The successful reports were repeated over and over.
In Marc’s last letter home he talks about this very thing, “It will take longer than most think but we will get Iraq to stand on it’s own feet.” To be able to see first hand that happening allows me to see some weight on the balance scales where Marc’s sacrifice has heavily weighed on the opposite side. I was so blessed to return for a second time and personally thank the troops and bring love to them from back home.
My first trip in Dec 07 made history as I was the first Gold Star Mother to go into the combat zone where my son gave his life. I am so proud of Marc and I will use every breathe I have to honor him and all of our brave warriors who give so much for our freedoms.
