Friedman on the 60-day extension

. . . . .

JERUSALEM< ISRAEL - JULY 23: Israel's Likud Party leader and former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu (L) stands with US Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) during their meeting on July 23, 2008 in Jerusalem, Israel. Obama began a visit to Jerusalem on Wednesday pledging staunch support for Israel and saying that if elected, he would work to reinvigorate the Middle East peace process. Not looking good, folks… from Dan in NYC:

Today, the run-up to Netanyahu’s mega-disengagement has begun.

As I write, Netanyahu and his ministers are dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on a 60-day-“only” extension of the building freeze Netanyahu swore would end last month. The extension will give Netanyahu, Abbas and Obama time to draw up the map for the “two-state solution” and present it to the world as a fait accompli, leaving only minor details  such as Jerusalem, right of return, and evicting 100,000 Jews to be ironed out within the next year. The mass expulsion of Jews living inJudea and Samaria outside Israel’s new borders will be designated the succeeding sine qua non for peace. When Netanyahu and the junta give the orders, a Jewish army drawing on its rich experience in Gaza will carry them out.

Looking back, history will mark these meetings as Netanyahu’s Wannsee Conference, where the Israeli leadership decided their problem was the presence of Jews and eliminating that presence was the solution. The wonder of it is that it took 60 years for Zionism to reach the same conclusion as the Nazis and turn on itself. But then again, Zionism had to wait until the resigned, sheepish Israeli people acquiesced. Once behind the curve, they have now caught up – or better still, couldn’t care less.

Zionism is meeting its end in Zion. The State of Israel will be next.

  1. One wonders why it is thought that the “2 state solution” will
be any more palatable &/or effective than when originally offered, decades ago? Also in play, the indisputable fact that
can certainly not have escaped Netanyahu–that a once staunch & dependable ally, is no longer what it once was.
