America’s Renaissance

While our Sunday morning rally in Harrisburg, PA was taking place on the steps leading to the State Capitol, I stepped inside the impressive domed building to poke around.  Glad I did.  Pennsylvania’s Capitol building is touted as a priceless artistic and architectural treasure.  They’re not kidding.  This place is beautiful.  It features stained glass, paintings and furnishings by some of the best artisans of the day.  The building’s centerpiece is a spectacular 272-foot, 52-million pound dome inspired by Michaelangelo’s design for St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Miss Kylie Kremer, daughter of Tea Party chairman Amy Kremer, accompanied me inside.  Kylie’s all dressed up for All Hallow’s Eve as lady Liberty.  Appropriate, don’t you think?

Legend has it that when President Theodore Roosevelt attended the dedication of the building on October 4, 1906, he said, “This is the handsomest building I ever saw.”

Take a look at Pennsylvania’s governmental seat  and see if you don’t agree.
