Autumn Leaves…

I am mostly in “intake” mode this morning, reading post-election headlines and analytical “think” pieces, listening to Glenn (and later, Rush), and keeping an eye on Fox News where Tea Party Express’ Amy Kremer will be making an appearance.

Rather than adding to the copious amount of pieces out there, I’ve culled some of the items I’ve read that are worth sharing.

Let’s start with The Heritage Foundation’s Morning Bell:

“CBS News’ Chip Reid asked the President yesterday: “Republicans say more than anything else what this election was about was spending. … Do you accept the fact that any kind of spending to create jobs is dead at this point?” The President responded: “I think the American people are absolutely concerned about spending and debt — and deficits.” Good for the President for acknowledging these concerns. But after providing lip service to concerns about spending the President then went on to talk about all the “investments” he wanted to make in supertrains, supercomputers, and Singapore’s airport. The President just can’t help himself: he is addicted to federal spending. And it is the next Congress’ job to make him to stop.

Congress must craft a solution for our nation’s long term entitlement spending problems. But our nation’s economy also needs a strong signal that this Congress is serious about cutting spending now. That will let job creators know that their taxes are not destined to be higher. Specifically, Congress must Get to Work immediately:

• Stop Digging: Any new unemployment assistance should be offset by spending cuts elsewhere. Any remaining unobligated TARP funds should be rescinded before they can be allocated to new spending. Most important, lawmakers must repeal Obamacare, a ticking spending and deficit time bomb.
• Freeze Spending: Congress must by law ensure that the total amount of discretionary budget authority for the Federal Government in fiscal year 2011 cannot exceed the total amount in fiscal year 2010.
• Cut Spending: Congress must immediately cut at least $170 billion from the federal budget (CBO baseline) for fiscal year 2012. This is only a significant and plausible first step – more will be necessary.
• Ban Corporate Welfare: Lawmakers should reform America’s largest corporate welfare program—farm subsidies, which are overwhelmingly distributed to large, profitable agribusinesses rather than struggling family farmers. Other corporate welfare programs like the Technology Innovation Program should be eliminated.
• Bring Federal Pay in Line with the Private Sector: Congress should bring equity to federal pay and align federal compensation with market rates. When fully implemented it would save taxpayers approximately $47 billion a year.

Michelle Malkin told Obama and the Democrats to shove it yesterday in her syndicated column.  And today, she’s smelling the same foul stench I mentioned in my post yesterday following Dingy Harry.

Have you yet read Sen. Jim DeMint’s letter to incoming Senate Conservatives?  In another piece, he’s promising to ban earmarks right away.  Does he have the horsepower?

Tea Party Express chief political strategist Sal Russo posts at Facebook:  “Quite an astounding election night with historic wins for Republicans when the pundits were counting them out only 21 months ago — when the Santelli rant sparked the tea party movement.”

George Neumyr at the American Spectator talks of Obama observing his own funeral:

Obama received praise after the press conference for his “pensive” demeanor, but what’s stunning about him is his utter lack of reflection. He either has no capacity for critical thinking or what little he once possessed has dissipated in ideological reliance upon mindless cliché and sophistry. In any case, it is scary. At the end of the day, he is nothing more than a shallow pol with little interest in or knowledge of governing. He backed into the White House through effortless luck (he ran against one of the worst Republican presidential candidates ever), and apparently assumed that running the White House would be just as easy.

His shallowness also makes him obtuse, even from a rawly political and self-interested standpoint. He suffered one of the worst defeats in decades because of his environmental, socialist, and Brave New World dilettantism, yet spent much of the press conference talking about “electric cars,” gays in the military, and 26-year-olds who, thanks to his largesse, will get to stay on the health care plans of their “parents.”

Rush Limbaugh on Conservative Women

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a disinformation campaign like we saw against Christine O’Donnell or Sharron Angle, Meg Whitman, Linda McMahon.  You have to hand it to the news media; they did their best out there.  They did their best to mischaracterize and miscategorize these people.  They really did.  Imagine in Nevada, the state with the highest unemployment, the worst foreclosure rate, the state that includes Las Vegas, state of Nevada, which Obama told everybody to avoid, and it still goes for Harry Reid?  What could be suspicious about that?  We know that people don’t like Harry Reid in Nevada.  We know that.  They’re on board saying so.  They’re on record saying so in all kinds of polling data, worst unemployment, worst foreclosure rate, and still they vote for Harry Reid.  As I say, not bad, if it is what it is, then good, we’ve got Harry Reid. He’s still there, what better face could we have as the Democrat Party?

Nikki Haley wins the governorship.  Republican women who are conservative sailed.  They’ve got more to be proud of than is known.
