Congress. Busy as thieves…

The Senate is incredibly close to passing S. 510, the “FDA Food Safety Modernization Act”.  Glenn Beck warned about it during the first hour of his show. The Tea Party antennae are up. Sen. Tom Coburn, MD (R- OK) sounding the alarm: Melt the phones!

We checked in with our Capitol Hill Insider  Elizabeth Letchworth who says this isn’t going to pass.

“… they (Senate GOP) will not let this bill go thru. Sen. Coburn has an amdt re: earmark ban for all teed up for consideration as well as Sen. Johanns (R-NE) has one to repeal the 1099 HC provision. They first need to get 60 votes on Monday, Nov. 29th in order to move the bill. I doubt this will happen. The reason the GOP let the bill become pending so they would have a vehicle to offer their amdts on: –earmarks  and the –1099 repeal

BTW-This bill is the Food safety modernization act and not the Farm bill. The Farm bill is passed every 5 yrs and doesn’t expire until 2011. This is a bill to give the FDA more authority and to modernize the agency.”
