. . . . .

The "Honorable" Steny Hoyer, livin' large

Yep, the “Honorable” Steny, livin’ large.

Bet he’s NOT willing to freeze his Congressional pay…

From Charlotte in CA:

Oh those fabulous, patriotic Democrats. They ‘love our military,’ & always think they should enjoy nothing but the very best!  They just don’t like the war part of it……….or now, not the payroll cost……….or the first rate medical care. Otherwise, our guys & gals should have premium treatment. E-Gad.

Hoyer: Military should also see pay freeze – The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room

Russell Berman, The Hill.com

The second-ranking House Democrat said Monday that President Obama’s move to freeze the pay of civilian federal employees should also be extended to military personnel.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said including the military would have increased savings and add “an element of fairness.” He made the comments in a statement about he president’s announcement of a two-year pay freeze.

“While I appreciate that the president reduced the length of his proposed pay freeze from three to two years,” Hoyer said in a statement, “it would have produced significantly more savings had that sacrifice been shared between federal civilian and military personnel — with a strong exception for the members of our military and civilian employees risking their lives on our behalf in Afghanistan, Iraq, and anywhere else they are serving in harm’s way.”

Hoyer will become minority whip in the 112th Congress. He has made budgetary reform a signature issue, and he said he would review Obama’s proposal “for its balance between fiscal responsibility and the need to recruit and retain a federal workforce able to provide the level of service that the American people expect.”

The Maryland Democrat also urged the administration to back a more comprehensive program to reduce the nation’s soaring deficit, along the lines of proposals from the president’s fiscal commission and a separate debt panel.

  1. Wonder why it is that congress is willing to freeze everyone else’s pay but theirs???? Do they really think no one else has anything to spend money on but them? I can tell you from experience that a family trying to live on military pay has few options. They subsist and that’s all. And barely at that. Especially in the lower ranks. Try raising a family on an E-3 or E-4’s pay. I dare you. Why do you think most military wives work outside the home??? They HAVE TO just to make ends meet. Oh, but they get so many other benefits you say? Compare commissary prices to supermarket prices. I don’t know what they are like now, but I remember when I was a military wife trying to raise children on an E-4 pay. I had to go to local grocery stores to get my food because the commissary was too expensive. You learn how to cut corners and save a few pennies here and a few nickles there. And you DON’T get to go have fun more than once every three or four months. We learned how to entertain our children on little or no money. So, NO, we do NOT need to freeze the military pay. But YES, YES, YES!!!!, we DEFINITELY need to freeze congress’ pay and maybe even make them take a pay cut. It seems only fitting for all the harm they are currently doing to our nation.
