I spoke last night to one of those smaller Tea Party groups — the Space Coast Patriots — and they are very actively involved in all local politics, as well as keeping a close eye on what Congress is doing. They keep their phones and computers at hand and aren’t afraid to use either to tell their reps what they expect them to do.
I saw groups like these all across the country when I did the Tea Party Express national tours — Americans banding together to take back their governments — and country — by getting involved like they never did before.
And that’s the solution.
For decades — and generations — we Americans took it all for granted, didn’t pay attention or stay informed, didn’t stay close to our Representatives so they could feel our breath on their necks. So while we were busy enjoying the fruits of others’ labors (i.e. those who were good citizens – all the way from the Revolutionary War patriots to those who fought and died to defend out country), we let it all slip away. While we were fat, dumb, and happy, feasting on the sacrifices of others, we let the wolf in the door.
People who now understand this are scrambling to make up for lost time by educating themselves and getting involved in the political and governing process. The BIG question is: have we taken up the responsibility in time to save our nation? Is there enough time? Is it too late? Have we already hit the tipping point? (Or to use a NASA-ism, the “Max-q”?)
There are many days when I think we are cooked. That we’ve passed the point of no return. That the fourth fence is already up, and we’re penned in, but just don’t know it yet. But I can’t give in to that pessimism. Because if I do (if WE do), we might as well hand it over to the EVIL that is wresting it away from us every moment of the day. And continue to go about our business, such that the government will let us. And do whatever it is that our “betters” tell us to do.
And finally, underlying it all, what would Jesus have us do???
I haven’t given up the fight, nor have a growing number of our fellow citizens. Though I get a visceral reaction whenever I see or hear Obama (my skin crawls), I know I have to pay attention to what the dog is doing.
I think Elizabeth Letchworth, our Capitol Hill expert, will be on with us tonight. I hope so. Maybe she can offer a ray of encouragement — maybe she’ll tell us that Congress will tell Obama to stick it. maybe. maybe…
