The key difference between Iran-Contra and RussiaGate is that the Iran-Contra operation was run mostly by then-Vice President George H. W. Bush — who infamously later declared to the news media that he was “out of the loop”, thus throwing President Reagan (who actually **was** out of the loop for much of it) under the bus.
In contrast, investigations have proven that some of the alleged events of RussiaGate never even happened. Other events, such as the sale of uranium to the Russians, were actually done by the Democrats, and not anyone from the Trump campaign. And, of the events that the Trump team actually did do, many of the details have been blown out of proportion.
Another key difference is that Iran-Contra was **not** an exclusively Republican operation. Then-Governor Bill Clinton was involved at the Mena (Arkansas) Airport right up to his cocaine-reddened nostrils.
