On this Holy Friday

Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice for us. We can only show our gratitude and love for you by being obedient to your Word, loving others and being conformed to your likeness.

Tomorrow, sometimes known as Silent Saturday, is a time when we can reflect on your death and burial.

How forlorn and dismayed the disciples and your followers of the day must have felt. How many questions might they have asked?  Were their hopes dashed? Were they despondent? Your physical presence was gone from them. What would they do now?

It was probably a nightmare for them.

But we can see clearly now in hindsight of God’s purposes for his creation, of conquering evil. Help us to remember that even if we do not understand what is going on currently, we know that you have a plan to reconcile all of creation back to yourself. Just as the disciples and followers were dismayed, disappointed, with a very bleak outlook, give us the sureness of hope, the steadfastness of faith for the expectant arrival of Jesus, your Son, awaiting the mighty miracles that you will bring upon the world. All who call upon your name will be saved. You are the name above all names, Jesus, and in your great name we pray, amen.
