As most of you are aware, Sound of Freedom just came out on July 4th, and I saw it opening day.
I felt it very necessary to break down my thoughts about this absolute MASTERPIECE of a film. Not only is the cinematography, acting, production and overall performance STELLAR, but the subject matter is what really MATTERS more than anything here.
The subject of child trafficking is no doubt taboo. When you bring it up to the average person, the thought is SO SICK & HEINOUS that it more often than not gets shut down as “conspiracy theory.” The reason for this is that people will shut things out that make them uncomfortable or upset regardless of how REAL something is. Cognitive dissonance. For the last few years, it has become increasingly harder to deny that there is a MAJOR problem with disgusting activities like this. Not just in the United States, but WORLDWIDE. One of the MOST shocking, and disturbing facts is that the US traffics MORE children now than EVER before in history, and MORE than any other country. This is a 120 BILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR industry around the world, and the number of children trafficked GROWS EVERY YEAR. Think about that for a second…
With what we have learned about the last few years about how Hollywood and many politicians are involved in this, it’s NO wonder why it took 5 years for this movie to come out. This movie was NEVER supposed to see the light of day. Disney had acquired rights to the film after purchasing 20th Century Fox in 2018, then it was shelved indefinitely afterward. The exposure that this movie brings to the dark underworld of child sex trafficking was just TOO dangerous for public consumption, and the fact that those implicated work with the very SAME studios and production companies. Many actors, actresses, directors, producers…All folks that are VERY recognizable in the public eye. The LAST thing they want is this DARK SECRET to be brought to a mainstream audience. Their WORST fears have now come true.
One of the main things I feel the film did exceptionally, is to capture the environment and emotions of the situation. That is a VERY hard thing to do when talking about such heavy, and dark subject matter. The actors/actresses were also very well thought out, and fit each part extremely well! The locations were greatly detailed, and on point. The story line, being based off a true story, is quite captivating and keeps you in a riveting suspense as the movie plays out. This movie will absolutely punch you in the gut, then tear at your heartstrings without mercy. It will also make you quite angry, and ignite a raging fire within you that makes you want to do EVERYTHING you can to get involved in making sure a STOP is put to this EVIL. And, that is the point.
While I feel that this is not only one of the MOST important movies ever made, but I personally would place this in my new top 5 favorites of all time. It’s damn near PERFECT. The one area where I feel that this could have been better however, is in the area of outreach and providing options for taking action. I feel like there was a kind of “missed opportunity” here, because there isn’t a way for the ordinary person to easily get involved. There isn’t a mention of any kind of organization, or website that someone can just look up then and there. It requires some leg work. I don’t know, that’s just the way I see it.
In closing, I believe firmly that EVERYONE should go and see this movie. Don’t question it, don’t believe anyone who tries to tell you why you shouldn’t, or that the actors are somehow “bad”. Just go see the movie, and really soak it in, then take that feeling you get when it’s over and use that to help rid this world of the biggest scourge, because GOD’S CHILDREN ARE NOT FOR SALE.
