To elaborate. The draft was ended in late 1972 by Richard Nixon at the tail end of the Vietnam War. I know, I was in the final group. I went to college.
The Selective Service System (SSS) is the government tool used to create a pool of draftees. It’s been law that, even during peacetime, men 18 and older are required to sign up. I did. But now, Gen Z is the target pool and Congress is attempting to include women in the available pool of draftees. This has never been the case in American history. To be clear, everybody 18+ will now AUTOMATICALLY be enrolled in the SSS database.
As a former volunteer for the US Air Force, I appreciated the option to choose to serve. As a former commander and career Air Force officer, I appreciated the opportunity to work with men and women who wanted to be there. It works.
Our military under Biden is woke and broke. Progressive identity politics have resulted in dramatically less qualified individuals and a less motivated generation wanting to volunteer.
If re-elected, Biden will have no choice but to crank up the draft to fill the ranks of an increasingly reduced rank and file. Biden will continue to move away from a volunteer force who want to serve to a conscripted group forced to serve.
It’ll be disastrous.

One more thought about military drafts. The predominant reason, IMHO, that women haven’t been drafted in the history of the world, is that women are necessary in creating life. No women, no families, no population. It’s as simple as that.
