It’s time to take a close look at the man who will be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
I’ve begun my research by watching several interviews he’s done, and I spent this morning watching “Hillbilly Elegy,” the film based on Vance’s book about his life growing up poor in Appalachia. I’ve also ordered the book thru Amazon, and I’m looking forward to reading it.
I’m pretty sure many of you are also exploring his background and record. Some are believing everything they’re reading or hearing about him, both good and bad.
I’m going to make up my own mind, but bottom line? He is Trump’s pick, and that’s a good start.
“Hillbilly Elegy”, the movie, is available on Netflix.

I’ve watched a couple of these interviews and I’m impressed! Us Blue collar workers have been told we were going to be losers all our lives! I first remember this messaging when I was 12 years old. That would be 1976. “If you don’t go to our colleges and get a good degree, you will all be losers” was the mantra. Looking back I am infuriated at the messaging. Especially having working class parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts who all assured me, that if I “worked with my hands” I would never starve.
So Senator Vance, do you want to fix it? Start with this: Bring back the 25-35 dollar per hour jobs Academia sent to China! You know those jobs in steel foundries, coal mines and machine shops building America! When you get those jobs back, (because you tariffed the mortal crap out of anything coming into America from anywhere), start telling the people you gave those good jobs back to that they are in fact, WINNERS! Of course, after President Trump has the FCC shut down the liberal media, there will be no more messages from Academia touting masters degrees! All that done, encourage those folks with a little extra spending money to take one course per week. They can set aside any night to not go drinking or partying but to actually educate themselves concerning anything they might need help with improving.
A hundred years ago we had a magical thing called “correspondence courses”. You could actually sign up and pay for a course in anything including stationary engineering and with a long and arduous process of mailing your results back to the parent company, obtain training in any field known to mankind.
We now have learning online which is the same thing but faster and anything you’d like to learn is now possible to become a master of if you really want it.
The official messaging needs to go from, “You’re, losers if you don’t go to our colleges” to “You’re a winner every time you invest in yourself and learn something new.
We then need to encourage the owners of those newly re patriated jobs to invest and save once they learn how to manage credit and pay their bills monthly. Maybe some courses on finance management, but I digress…
I will go to my grave preaching that a college degree is for most but not all! The people who don’t take the college path should be supported when they become tradesmen or whatever else they become, as long as it’s legal.
We used to teach basic’s in school. Somehow Diversity overtook the need to be able to balance a checkbook with a no.2 pencil. All schools should be forced to teach “Living Life” courses that those workers will actually USE later in life. President Trump might want to demolish the Dept. of Education, but if it was purged of the Communist influence within it, might actually be helpful.
That’s all I have for today, Senator Vance. Still hoping for that cup of coffee or glass of craft beer with you, someday
