Today’s view of things.

I took a pause for a beach walk while I listened to Tucker Carlson’s fascinating interview with Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a surgeon who made billions inventing cancer drugs. He says that Covid, and the vaccines that made it worse, are likely causing a global epidemic of terrifyingly aggressive cancers.

Contrast that serious conversation with this view… it made for an interesting juxtaposition.

On the north end of Cape Canaveral beach just below Jetty Park and Port cruise terminals, the view is quite unlike anywhere else. On launch day, from this vantage point one can watch rockets blast into space, from white-tipped launch towers visible on the horizon. To the right is a black launch tower and further out to the right on the point is the white and black striped Canaveral Light.

Anchored in the water at the mouth of Port Canaveral is a floating pump station (or “booster”) that’s been used these last weeks to pump sand from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s beach north of the harbor entrance. The slurry-like material is vacuumed up and pumped through large pipes, to replenish our beach. Huge earthmovers – bulldozers, plows and excavators spread the slurry, expanding the width of our beach by another 100 feet to restore beach acreage worn away by the natural flow of beach sand hampered and blocked by the channel’s boulder jetties, causing beach accretion to the beach north of ours, as well as winter storms, hurricanes, and seasonal wind erosion.

A perfectly beautiful and comfortable day today – a light and refreshing breeze out of the northeast, and a warm sun that tans me and delivers a healthy dose of Vitamin D.

March has brought us beautiful weather, and April’s beautiful days promise more of the same. Next SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch with another batch of satellites for the Starlink mega-constellation is set to go three days from now on March 30, delivering more of Elon Musk’s space-based internet communication system.

No matter how crazy things are, there’s always a place where one can retreat and recharge. This is mine. I hope you have yours too.
