  1. That “cultural thing” should remain in their own culture in their own country…..he will make NYC like London in no time

  2. If you wash your hands before eating I don’t see a problem with using your hands. We do it too, with sandwiches, fries, etc.

I am more concerned with someone who hates us, ruling us.

    1. During a visit years ago to DC, a friend and I ate at an Ethiopian Restaurant somewhere near the Capitol. We ate with our hands from a common platter of various foods. The food was delicious and we sopped up whatever juice was left with a thin spongy bread. (I have no recollection of what any of it was named!)

  3. Technically (if that’s the right way to say it) his picking up food/rice with his hands and eating out of his hands, is NOT the same thing as us eating fries or a sandwich. Holding a fry in two fingers and bringing it to one’s mouth is quite different than using one’s fingers and hand as a big spoon, and then having to put that ‘spoon’ INSIDE one’s mouth.
For Muslims it’s a cultural thing, yes. One hand for eating; the other for wiping their behinds – or so we’ve been told).
Especially when/where people who grasp food with their hands, and eat from their hands – from a common dish or bowl (ie buffet style)- and stuffing their fingers into their face, then going thru the same routine time after time is NOT risk free. Human mouths are more germ, cootie infested than a dogs mouth.
Just as gross and a health risk is where we see – frequently in public establishments – is where the food server/cook/etc, are wearing gloves – and then proceed to live their lives, do everything they do with those gloves on: wiping their gloved hands on the apron or pants or touching their ears or hair or handling money or pushing buttons or counter tops or tools/utensils, etc etc. The gloves are immediately rendered completely pointless. But our system/culture, the customer base, the health Dept rules and establishment management are ‘seemingly’ unaware of that.
