Dr. Dave Weldon Made News Today

Dr. Dave Weldon is a Space Coast resident who practiced medicine, then ran for Congress and won, only later to quit Congress in disgust and return to practicing medicine.

Dr. Weldon explained that he was being considered for the position as director of the CDC, but he believed that pharma interests put pressure on some Republican Senators to vote against him.

“Bobby Kennedy asked President Trump to appoint me to be director of the CDC, and my nomination was pulled because of opposition of a few Republicans in the Senate, who I believe were under a lot of pressure from pharma,” Weldon continued.

“I want your opinion on the current childhood vaccine schedule,” Dooley asked.

“I think there are a lot of problems with it,” Weldon said.

“For example, 90 percent of parents are refusing to do the covid vaccines for their kids. 90 percent. And when you have an institution like the CDC working in lockstep with the American Academy of Pediatrics and academics at all of our major medical schools throughout the country, out of step with 90 percent of the American people, you really, really have a very, very, big problem,” Weldon continued.

“In surveys, 80 percent of Republicans and 40 percent of Democrats don’t trust the recommendations coming out of the CDC,” Weldon explained.

“You are considered a doctor with a problem if your approval rating is 90 percent. Most doctors, those surveys come back, 98 percent, 97 percent are satisfied with their doctors,” Weldon explained.

Dr. Weldon said that the mistrust in the CDC is evident in how low the approval percentages are for the agency.

“You’ve got a major health organization in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control, a government agency, where somewhere between 40 and 80 percent of people don’t trust it; that’s bad. That is really bad,” Weldon explained.

It is a dangerous thing when a bureaucracy simply ignores the elected officials in the United States Congress. They are going against the will of the people.

“These agencies will ignore the Congress. They frequently do on a regular basis,” Weldon said.

GROK is a bit more detailed about how Dr. Weldon is a local here on the Space Coast.

“Dr. David Joseph Weldon Jr., commonly known as Dave Weldon, is a prominent figure in Florida’s Space Coast region—a coastal area in Brevard County centered around the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral, known for its aerospace heritage and economic ties to space exploration.

“Born in 1953 in Amityville, New York, Weldon has built a multifaceted career as a board-certified internist, U.S. Army veteran, former seven-term U.S. Congressman, and conservative public servant deeply invested in the Space Coast’s growth and health policy. He remains active in medicine, education, and community leadership as of November 2025.”

Political Career and Space Coast Impact

Weldon’s political journey began in 1994 when, as part of the “Republican Revolution,” he was elected to represent Florida’s 15th Congressional District (encompassing much of Brevard County, including the Space Coast, Indian River County, and parts of Osceola and Polk Counties). He served seven terms until 2009, sitting on key committees like Appropriations, Science, and Health and Human Services. As a fiscal and social conservative, he championed Second Amendment rights, pro-life policies, and national security. His tenure had a profound influence on the Space Coast’s economy and infrastructure:

  • Space Program Advocacy: Weldon was a vocal supporter of NASA’s Space Shuttle program and the International Space Station’s construction. He co-sponsored the Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act (originally the Commercial Space Act of 1998), which paved the way for private companies like SpaceX to operate and launch from Cape Canaveral, boosting the region’s aerospace industry.
  • Local Projects: He secured federal funding for the East Central Florida VA Clinic to serve veterans and land acquisition for expanding the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, protecting endangered sea turtles along Brevard’s beaches.
  • Health and Research: Weldon advocated for autism research funding and accountability in Health and Human Services budgeting, drawing from his medical expertise.

After leaving Congress in 2009 (opting not to seek an eighth term amid a competitive primary), Weldon briefly ran for U.S. Senate in 2012 (unsuccessful) and returned to medicine and consulting. In 2023, he announced a bid for Florida House District 32—covering Viera, Rockledge, and Eau Gallie on the Space Coast—to succeed term-limited Rep. Thad Altman. He lost the 2024 Republican primary to state Sen. Debbie Mayfield, 35% to 65%.

Recent Developments: CDC Nomination and Withdrawal

In November 2024, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Weldon to serve as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), praising his medical background, Army service, and conservative leadership on health policy. Trump highlighted Weldon’s potential to “restore CDC to its true purpose” by addressing chronic diseases, promoting transparency, and prioritizing “American family values.”

The nomination was celebrated locally, with Health First Medical Group calling it a “proud moment for Brevard County.”

However, Weldon’s confirmation stalled amid opposition from pharmaceutical industry lobbyists, whom he later blamed for influencing Republican senators. By March 2025, the nomination was withdrawn, leaving Acting Director Susan Monarez in place. Weldon expressed disappointment, noting it could erode public trust in the CDC. Despite this, he has voiced support for vaccines overall, including COVID-19 shots, though he has faced criticism for past comments linking vaccines to autism (which he later clarified as outdated).

  1. He isn’t wrong. Good doctors are being sucked up and made into clones per the protocols being instilled. Drs and hospitals used to be held in a high esteem, today, not so much, since it is all about the bottom line.
People in high places are making decisions about our lives that have no business making due to pharma rewarding them. I saw it first hand, my trust has collapsed. Trust your gut, do your homework and follow those that demand the truth.
