Finally, after all these years…

Nathan from Orlando and Andrea Shea King

It’s always such a kick when I get to meet my readers or radio show listeners.  Especially the ones who interact through comments, both written and phone. Today I got to meet a longtime listener.  If you listen to my radio program, you know him as “Nathan from Orlando”, the guy who drives a fuel truck on the highways and byways of Central Florida who listens in on his cellphone and occasionally “raises his hand” on my call screen to let me know he’s got something to say.  And he never disappoints!

Nathan was one of my earliest listeners when I hosted my radio show on WDBO AM 580 in Orlando.  Every Sunday night, almost without fail, Nathan would call in with what would always be a thoughtful contribution to the conversation, often bringing up a point or two that we hadn’t touched on in the course of our topic discussion.

That was several years ago.  All that time, Nathan was a voice, an image that I had formulated in my mind.  Today I got to meet him.  On his day off, Nathan drove to the coast and called me spur of the moment to meet him for lunch.  Four hours and a Greek salad later, we parted company, looking forward to more lively political chats!

The irony?  I got to meet Nathan’s brother Norman while on the Tea Party Express national tour during our rally in Phoenix AZ.  Life sometimes is strange, no?
