I still maintain that if the intentions of the group behind the Cordoba House mosque at Ground Zero were nothing but benevolent & sincere, then they would not have named the project as they did! The name & their specious & disingenuous
explanations are simply “taqiya to kufar”; this is a common practice in Islam whereby anything done to promote the agenda of the Ummah or Islam is justifiable, any lie, any heinous action to advance Islam is to be celebrated!
Friedman’s cartoon is excellent. But don’t you wonder how Imam Rauf can get away with acting like that. And don’t you wonder why he is treated like a dignitary by not only Obama and Hillary, but even the Bush administration? I hate to say this, but I am wondering if he knows something that he is holding over their heads. (as in blackmail)
Elizabeth, I agree with you. If they really wanted to “build a bridge” and be benevolent and were sincere, why name it THE CORDOBA HOUSE? Not many people understand the meaning behind that name.

well-documented history in Islam where the site of an Islamic
Imperialistic victory is commemorated with a mosque, always built at, near, or atop a structure that holds religious, cultural,
social, &/or historical significance to the “conquered peoples”.
In Spain, the site was Cordoba–a cathedral was “transformed” into the Alhambra Mosque; in Constantinople,
(now Istanbul) a similar event occurred; Jerusalem & even
Mecca–which once was home to a temple dedicated to the
pantheon of gods venerated by the natives!! An interesting
side note–Michele Obama’s visit to Spain, on the heels of
the announcement of this mosque, included a sight-seeing
trip to the site of this infamous mosque in Cordoba.
Rauf cites in his old speech the sanctions against Hussein’s Iraq. Does this mean he supported the Hussein regime? It was a Stalinist style totalitarian dictatorship which had been guilty of destroying an entire ecosystem (draining the Iraq watershed) to wipe out the way of life of the river Arabs who were a political problem for him. Where were the environmentalists when Hussein drained the national swamplands to wipe out a tribe of people whose living came from those waters? Hussein also did not hesitate to commit mass murder, torture and mayhem on any number of Iraqis, a dozen or a hundred at a time. Halabjah was the worst, but there were mass graves all OVER iraq with hundreds of bodies in each one… doesn’t anyone remember all the dead we discovered after Hussein was deposed? The big crowds of crying Iraqis at gravesides trying to identify their loved ones from scraps of clothing or wallets or tooth fillings? The hundreds of skulls with bullet holes in them? the rape rooms where 12 year old girls went at midnight to meet Hussein’s sons? The torture chambers with blood and crap on the floor and chains hanging from the ceiling? The cigarette burns on the feet of the Iraqi national soccer team after a loss? The video tapes of Hussein and his thugs shooting people, beating them, throwing them off rooftops? The 1968 black and white video of Hussein’s national cabinet meeting in which men were dragged out of the room to die while other men wept and pissed themselves and declared their loud and profound loyalty to Saddam?
Does Imam Faisal Rauf claim that Saddam was wrongly sanctioned? If children died from malnutrition and lack of medicine, it was because Saddam co-opted the world community (Chirac et al) to bypass sanctions so that his money could continue to buy weapons, instead of food for the children. Care for Iraq’s children was something the UN was responsible for ensuring, supervising the oil money from Iraqi oil, and in which the UN FAILED MISERABLY because of its own corruption and acceptance of Saddam’s bribes.
Does Rauf claim none of this happened? DOes he defend Hussein’s immense cruelty? Does he claim the world was angelic in this and it was only America’s sanctions that caused children to suffer and die?
Short answer, yes. I’m sure he both knows this and presumes that the world has forgotten it. Claudie Rosett did a great job revealing it all in a series of stories a few years back, and the MSM ignored it all.
THe “bridge” that Rauf wants to build is between New York and the 9th century.
