From my local weatherforecaster Steve:
At 5PM TS Bret was located at 28.3N & 77.0W or about 220 miles east of Cocoa Beach moving to the NNE at 7 mph to increase in the next 24 hours. Hurricane Hunter aircraft found winds at 65 mph, higher in gusts and the MCP has dropped to 996 mb. Bret will be a hurricane tomorrow. The counter-clockwise winds will produce heavy surf and dangerous Rip Currents on FLorida’s east coast…….so….. SURF’S UP!
In the Tropics, the tropical wave to watch is the one that has exited out of the African Coast. It is huge, getting a circulation already, pushing the Saharan Dry Air/Dust out of the way, and should hold together until it winds up as a tropical cyclone in the same spawning area as Bret (off SE FLorida). Since there will be no trough over the US East Coast to keep it off shore, FLorida and the SE US Coast will be threatened.
