Smaller is better

I think it’s fascinating to see how folks are downsizing into more manageable spaces. Eventually it will become a necessity, if it hasn’t already for many of the unemployed or on fixed incomes.

Here’s a video that shows you how one guy turned 400 square feet of living space into 1,000.  How did he do it?  Here, hold my beer and I’ll show you…

  1. Smaller is better, works for some folks but not everyone embraces this concept. As long as we are still able to make choices that suit our individuality or lifestyle, that is fine, however, when our government mandates this as our future, no thanks. Mayor Doomberg is probably jumping with joy at the concept depicted in the video, especially since he wants apartments in NYC to have a footprint of 300 sq.ft.

As you know, we have downsized our life from a sprawling 7000 sq.ft. home to a 405 sq.ft. condo, however, we also have a 3000 + sq.ft. home as well. For us, the condo is furnished with efficient space utilization and comfort in mind, and as a vacation getaway dwelling, it works very well. For our long term living, the larger home is more desirable, although we do feel a smaller home around 1600 sq.ft would be more suitable for our empty-nest needs.

I have been fascinated for many years at the “smaller home” concept and believe it is a great alternative for individuals or couples to provide affordable housing. A lot of creativity goes into the planning of a tiny floor plan to provide adequate storage and functionality as we viewed in the video. The NYC apartment depicted, has all these elements and attractive as well. One of the many features I liked is, the expanding dining room table that seats ten, and it appears the guests were comfortable during the dinner party.

    Thank you for sending.
