Commenters at Breitbart’s piece on the Ponzi scheme that’s been revealed – what happened on Wall Street:

So now your stock is worth money, Wall Street has restricted your ability to sell, rendering your value worthless.

- tonye Keith • 5 hours ago • editedNo, you got it wrong. They are allowing you to sell, not to buy.You see, if you sell, you help the hedge funds because the price of the stocks drops and they can cover their bets.If you buy, you push the price up, soak up liquidity of the stock and the hedge funds lose more money.IMPORTANT… what no one is TALKING ABOUT is the legality of a number of Hedge Funds selling 140% of the existing stock of the company… is that FRAUD?Of course, given the state of the paper gold market…51 •Reply•Share ›

- 1daver1 bc1659 • 4 hours agoBecause that’s how the hedge fund companies short a stock. They borrow stock on top of stock excessively, driving the price down, then purchase it at a steal, thus making a huge profit. They’re allowed to borrow stocks that don’t exist over the 100%. Makes the short quicker.7 •Reply•Share ›Show 1 new reply

They are taking a “short” position, which is basically a promise to buy the stock at a predetermined price. They are betting that the stock price will go lower, at which time they will buy the stock and pocket the difference between their “short” position and the purchase price.6 •Reply•Share ›

Robin Hood actually stole back UNFAIR TAXES. He didn’t “steal from the rich to give to the poor”, that’s a lie and I don’t understand how it continues to be told! Nobody freaking reads??
RobinHood is the name of the brokerage handling the stock sells and buys.
A better answer would be this one from Dave Perkins at Facebook who wrote,
“Somehow, a band of renegades from Reddit or somewhere have figured out which stocks are heavily shorted by big money, and have been buying those stocks like crazy to screw up the short positions of the hedge funds. It’s worked so well that the stock trading company they were using has put a halt to it.
The band of renegades are pissed. Investing is for everyone, they say. Why can’t we buy stocks when other people have shorted them?
Well, basically because you’re costing rich people lots of money and they won’t abide that.
One of the games big money plays is to sell shares of a stock they short until the price goes down enough that liquidating the short positions is hugely profitable. Big money can move the market that way, for its own benefit.
Now, little money tried to get in the game, and big money has decided to shut them out. Even the “Robin Hood” trading outfit, legendary for allowing small guys the shot at investing with the big guys, has come down on the side of the big guys.”
I know that, I’m just commenting on the discussion surrounding it and why they named it that.
See my reply to your previous comment about Robin Hood.
