As an old English teacher, hearing the man shouting “mutherf**ker”, I am reminded of what I have learned about language. The English language in particular is nuanced. If we control our use of it, rather than sinking into common vernacular, we can actually elevate the culture. It can give us a sense of respect, which in turn causes others to be more thoughtful and respectful. We need to encourage a return to traditional values to get our culture out of its current morass, and our language is a starting point. “Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right, for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.” Prov. 8:6-7
