@WSJ, Israel has assembled a system of large pumps to flood Hamas’s system of tunnels under Gaza with water pumped from the Mediterranean Sea. The IDF set up 5 large water pumps which are capable of flooding the terror tunnel network within weeks by pumping thousands of cubic meters of water per hour into the tunnels.

ISRAEL PLANS TO USE SEAWATER TO FLUSH HAMAS OUT OF TUNNELS IN GAZA –
– The IDF plans to flood the Hamas tunnels using a seawater pump system they constructed one kilometer north of the Shati refugee camp in mid-November
– 5 pumps can pump thousands of cubic meters of seawater per hour and could flood the entire tunnel network within weeks.
– It is unclear if the IDF would flood the tunnels before all the hostages were released to prevent innocent casualties.
– IDF source: “The IDF is working to dismantle Hamas’ terrorist capabilities in various ways, using various military and technological tools.”
– American military official: “We are not sure how successful the pumping plan will be because no one knows the details of the tunnels and the soil around them. It’s impossible to know if it will be effective because we don’t know how seawater will drain in tunnels where no one has been before.”
It is important to note that in 2015, Egypt flooded many Hamas tunnels under the Egypt-Gaza border to prevent weapons trafficking.
Mick Mulroy, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense and officer in the Marine Corps and CIA: “Dogs are most effective,” he said, but need to be followed by troops to clear the tunnels.
“Robots move slow and break. And using humans is risky. Using water over a long period would force Hamas fighters out.”
