A new little one has joined our family tree.

My sweet granddaughter “O” gave birth last night to her first child, a beautiful baby boy. They waited several years before having a child. When they decided it was time, several months passed before I got that call: “Grandma, guess what!” she said excitedly. “I’m pregnant!” Later she texted ultrasounds. “It’s a boy!”

She and her husband “J” named the baby while he was still in the womb: “Ari,” the diminutive of a name longer than he is: Aureliano.

And now Ari is here.

Today “O” texted several photos of my infant great-grandson to “acquaint us” via long distance. She and her husband reside in Anchorage. I’m in Cape Canaveral. (I’m seeing a trip to Alaska in the future…)

Of the many she sent, one photograph was exceptional, representing the joy and miracle of birth and the reward and contentment that comes after laboring for hours.

I love this image of her with her firstborn. Both of them completely and utterly content. Madonna and child.

“O”s face is flushed like it would occasionally become when she was a child. I see it again today. Her beautiful hair frames her serene face.  Tiny Ari in his mother’s arms grasps his father’s finger for the very first time.  Paternal and maternal contact. Unparalleled security.

It’s so classic, so perfectly captures the moment, it might have been staged. But the moment is real. Precious. And I get to stare at it, send my love to them, and share it with you. 💕

My granddaughter and great grandson.

  1. Lovely! What a beautiful gift God gives us! Blessings upon blessings when we can experience the joy of our children and grands and great grands. Congratulations!

    1. I’m more thrilled for my granddaughter who has a level head, a sunny disposition, and a caring heart. She waited until their time together as a couple creating their own”groove” together was not enough. She knew the clock was ticking and she and her husband wanted to start creating their family. It took almost a year. They plan on two children. She’s in the medical field and wants – eventually – to continue same on her own schedule. A full household of more than two children, three dogs/two cats might preclude her from eventually doing that. Thank you for leaving your comment. Very sweet. 💕

  2. Congratulations to you and your family. Such a blessing and precious gift from the Father. Thanks for sharing with us. Hugs and blessings, praying the Blood of Jesus covering all.

      1. Beautiful, beautiful photo of that precious moment, blessings and congrats…..and yes, I think a trip to Alaska will be on your calendar soon……
