View of Space X Falcon 9 rocket booster after it did its duty early Tuesday, propelling a rocket-load of Starlink satellites into orbit.
As the soot-covered stack was towed into Port Canaveral last Thursday atop one of its three landing barges, (this one is “A Shortfall of Gravitas”) we watched it berth under a giant crane which began the process of readying it for transport back to Space X’s facility at nearby Kennedy Space Center.
An autonomous spaceport drone ship (ASDS) is a modified ocean-going barge equipped with propulsion systems to maintain precise position and a large landing platform.
SpaceX developed these vessels to recover the first stage (also called the booster) of its launch vehicles. By recovering and reusing these boosters, SpaceX has significantly reduced the cost of space launch. – Wikipedia
The other two SpaceX drone barges are “Of Course I Still Love You” and “Just Read the Instructions.”
