It is no secret that I love music, and lyrics. I often recount lyrics and lines of movies, and insert them in any given situation or discussion. I can recall them often, yet I can’t remember many times all my words, or why I just came into a room. I really dug “Everyone Wants To RUle the world, it was such a mod- catchy tune. Your post caused me to reflect deeper on the writers true meanings. WHich I had not done for decades. Many times my habit of reciting lyrics, truthfully I had not really contemplated their depth., and true meaning. I do see how, This song has become a bigger reality as time has moved lightning speed past it’s first release.
I see today how too many want absolute control, power, and are running on greed . It is a slippery slope, running like a fast moving train, especially when thinking of the rich, powerful elite.
The line that says, ” One headline, why believe it,” questions the reliability of the media and points out the shortsightedness of leaders and those who blindly follow and believe the biased media. . All ot this seeking truth, know how that has progressed into, a monster called the main stream media.
“The line of their being a room where the light won’t find you.” had me reflecting on a couple of things, that might of been the meaning behind them.
1: If THEY are looking for you, for Non complience to their law and rules, forces of the mark, in Revelations, find a room where they can’t find you, although they will.
2: Jesus is the Light, so I would always want the room with the light.
I had to try and figure out the song’s true meaning. so I researched and found it meant neither. It was about seeking safety from the Cold War and the threat of nuclear Destruction.
The “room” represents an underground fallout shelter or a hidden refuge, while the “light” refers to the blinding flash of a nuclear explosion. This imagery is paired with the next line, “Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down,” which evokes the apocalyptic dread of mutually assured destruction and the comfort of being with a loved one at the end of the world.Overall, the song uses these lyrics to critique the pursuit of power and greed by highlighting the terrifying realities that such global ambitions can create.
Reading this, brought another song to my mind. Gateful Deads, “Walk me out in the morning dew.” Another song from my day, about Nuclear fall out.
Another nugget I found was that “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was banned for broadcast by the BBC for the duration of the first Gulf War ,2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991, due to the song’s political themes. For several years, the song was used as the title theme to the political HBO talk show, Dennis Miller Live.
