This evening several of us will be gathering our beach chairs and coolers, celebrating at the beach with a telescope to watch the rise of the full moon and hours later, its total eclipse. Munchies and adult beverages will be disguised in paper cups, of course.
The full red moon will make its debut over Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach at 7:49pm and we’ll be there to welcome it as it takes over the sky above the ocean’s horizon.
The gorgeous moonrise over the Atlantic will be followed with a total eclipse set to begin at 10:28p. It’s been reported that while the eclipse’s peak may last only for a short amount of time, the moon’s coppery tones will change throughout the night. These changes make this celestial phenomenon interesting to watch throughout the eclipse rather than at a particular moment.
For optimal viewing conditions, avoid bright lights and tall buildings. That isn’t a problem here as we are in the midst of turtle hatching season, and lights pointed toward the beach are a no-no. The tall condo buildings will be behind us, thus we’ll have a completely unobstructed view.
“Eclipse scientist Fred Espenak has listed May 15th’s full moon as a so-called supermoon, making this event extra special. The full moon is at its perigee (the closest approach to Earth of the month, in its orbit). So we’ll be seeing a slightly larger moon experience the Super Flower Blood Moon eclipse.”
How many of us will hang out at the beach to witness the entire celestial show remains to be seen but we lunatics know there won’t be another TOTAL lunar eclipse until March 2025.
If you miss this one, you have a chance to see seven more FULL moons (sans eclipse) in 2022, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac:
- June 14: Strawberry moon
- July 13: Buck moon
- August 11: Sturgeon moon
- September 10: Harvest moon
- October 9: Hunter’s moon
- November 8: Beaver moon
- December 7: Cold moon

Durham’s trial vs Sussman begins on Monday, May 16th.

I AM NOT DATEFAGGING. I am NOT positing anything big goes down Monday. Rather – this trial will be the first thread pulled from the fabric and will continue on up the ladder until we reach Obama and Hillary.
Today’s episode of shot in the dark decodes has been brought to you by copious amounts of caffeine and chicken tendies. Be blessed, frens.
